International student internship within the KAEBUP project

As part of The Knowledge Alliance for Evidence-Based Urban Practices (KAEBUP) project, applications for international summer internships have been opened. SF:ius will host a student from the University Of Cyprus as part of the internship project.

Internship description

The summer internship in Zagreb will host a student for a period of 60 days during which he will participate in a program of curated activities, comprising of both group and individual research work, aimed at developing proficiency in mapping urban territories. SF:ius and its researchers are in the process of developing methodological tools and didactic materials essential for the successful conduction and completion of the internship. During the internship, the student/intern will become acquainted with the history of the modern urban development of Zagreb, the contemporary socioeconomic and urbanistic constellations of various city municipalities, neighborhoods and suburbs as well as the greater metropolitan area of Zagreb county.

This will lead toward a deeper understanding of urban morphology in transition centered around the city municipality of Martinovka. Martinovka is located in between the city center and the river Sava floodplain – the two important physical and natural constituents of Zagreb and paradigmatic aspects of its conception. Following the program of curated activities, the intern will be able to critically engage and analyze ideological and material narratives of urban development, recognize urban phenomena, and assemble a case study.

Organization profile

SF:ius is a non-profit organization concerned with particular social and urban aspects, which require attention and are not entirely covered by established institutions and/or corporate culture in general. The projects conducted by SF:ius cover current phenomena mainly related to the fields of social theory, architecture and urbanism, art practice and theory, and philosophy. The purpose of SFIUSis to promote fairer distribution of authority and life opportunities for all, social justice, and innovative solutions for social tensions; issues closely related to the political dimension and agency of the space/territory.

SF:ius conducts and supports a variety of other activities: education and information campaigns, public events, publishing, and cooperation with national and international organizations, institutions, groups, and individuals. Core elements of SF:ius practice are therefore rooted in experimental and interdisciplinary approaches towards urban phenomena. The small SF:ius staff consists of researchers in a range of fields from architecture and urban studies to cultural anthropology, art history, and philosophy and is further diversified through cooperation with independent researchers and other institutions.
